We all are well aware of the term ‘’racks’’ and most of us
use these racks in our day to day life, at different places and for various
purposes. These racks are not manufactured in one piece, in fact, they need
some fastening before they are ready to be used.
Initially, to receive threaded bolt, tapping of mounting holes is done and if the rack rails are found to be thin for tapping, then
rivnuts are used. In case the equipment to be fixed is known in advance, some
of the holes from these mounting rails can be removed. Threaded mounting holes
in racks seem to be inoperative for the equipment and are frequently changed as
the mounting screws may break off or the threads may get damaged during the
changing process. In tapped-hole racks, cage nuts are used and tapping of a
large number of holes is done which makes it an expensive rack. These may be
replaced by the clearance-hole racks in which bolts are used in place of cage
nuts and tapping of holes is eliminated, thus making it less expensive than
tapped-hole racks. In clearance-hole racks, the holes are made large enough so
that the bolts may be inserted easily without binding. After these, square-hole racks came into existence that allows an easy installation and removal of a
rack without using any bolts.
Heavy equipment or
the equipment requiring frequent servicing is not directly installed onto the
racks, in fact, they are mounted through rails or slides so that attaching or
detaching it from all the four corners is done smoothly during servicing. These
rails or slides not only support the equipment but are also useful for their
inspection or maintenance as it is easier to slide back into the rack. For data
processing apparatus, e.g. routers or disk arrays and computers, it is
necessary to purchase the customized rails from the manufacturers of equipment
directly, as there is no standard thickness of such equipment.
The manufacturers of racks in Delhi NCR have launched the
computer servers with additional features in the markets. These features make
it easier to use the server, for instance, the sliding rails can be locked in
many positions when the equipment is drawn-out of the rack for service and this
prevents the unnecessary shifting of the same. Some servers have locking pins
on the edges that permits easy installation and removal of the server without
holding it in the midair. There are other rack mount hardware with a folding
cable tray that helps in keeping the cables neatly inside the rack, thus
simplifying the maintenance but with a limitation to airflow.
Thus we can say that these racks have proved to be really
useful for keeping our equipment safe and making their maintenance much easier.
