The Punching and pressing works of metal sheets is a time
consuming process if it is done manually or without the use of the CNC turret
punching machines. There are a number of tools to be used in this process and
it might take a high initial capital cost. For this reasons, it is generally
used only for large production quantities. If the smaller quantities have to be
produced, it will take a high cost to do it, leading to an increase in the cost
of production. This is precisely where the CNC turret punching machines are of
good use.
The use of these machines obviates the need for first preparing
the tools that have to be used for punching and pressing purposes. Machines
used in the
CNC turret punching job works already have a specified set of
standard tools which are fit in the turret. Depending on the specifications of
the respective job works to be done, the right tool in the turret is brought up
by rotation and is used for automated punching and pressing. This machine is
generally capable of holding about 60 tools at a time. Simple geometrical
shapes can be cut right from the sheet whereas more complex shapes can be cut
by using a combination of these standard shapes.
Most of the modern machined used for this purpose are
controlled by the CNC. These are automated systems which allow you to
auto-position and auto-select the tools used for cutting the sheet in different
shapes.
Nowadays laser cutting of the sheets is also being used for job
works but its use is not as much as that of the CNC punching and pressing
tools. The CNC machines are used where the work is of repetitive in nature and
large production quantities have to be produced. Large industrial setups
usually outsource the job works in this field to the third parties since the
work is generally not of regular nature that would warrant setting up of these
machines.
